What is the Charity Challenge and Why Should I Participate?
The Charity Challenge is an annual charity race and fundraising event, with teams raising money for over 70 local non-profit organizations! Participants can choose to wheel, walk or run 5 km or a half-marathon.
You have the choice to participate online or in-person in Vancouver. Everyone is welcome to join – this includes wheelchair-users, mobility aid users, and able-bodied folks. We would love for you to participate and help us reach our fundraising goal of $80,000! Funds raised go directly to our Peer Program and Information Services to support all British Columbians living with an SCI or related disability.
Who Can Participate?
Anyone! We encourage SCI BC peers to participate, but the race is open to all friends, family and supporters from near and far. Because the race is happening in-person and online – it doesn’t matter where you live!
How do I register?
Registration is easy. Contact Christina at clee@sci-bc.ca and we can take it from there! If you can commit to raising a minimum of $100, we’ll cover your registration cost.
What Does it Cost to Participate?
If you are able to commit to raising a minimum of $100 for SCI BC, we will waive your registration fee! Otherwise, the regular registration cost is $50.
When is Race Day?
Online Racing: You have from June 1 – 30, 2023 to complete your fitness goal (we recommend setting a goal of 5km, 10km, 21km or another type of fitness goal that you can easily track and train towards accomplishing).
In-Person Racing: June 25, 2023. Join us in Vancouver for the event day!
Where Do I Race? How Do I Log My Time?
Online Racing: Anywhere! You can complete your distance wherever you want (sidewalks, parks, backyard, living rooms, accessible trails, etc.). Once complete, visit RaceRoster to upload your race time. More instructions will be added soon!
In-Person Racing: Vancouver, BC. More details coming soon!
Do I Have to Fundraise?
Fundraising is a very important part of this event. All of your fundraising dollars will go directly towards helping people with SCI or related disabilities adjust, adapt, and thrive. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and it’s crucial that we raise enough money to help keep our programs and events running!
I Don’t Want to Race. How Else Can I Contribute?
There are lots of other ways to still be involved in this special event. You can donate to the team or sponsor a participant to help them reach their fundraising goal. You can also help us spread the word, chime in on social media, send encouraging messages to racers, or raise funds within your personal network for our organization. Reach out to us if you’d like to get involved but aren’t sure how!
