We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Environmental Technician in the Climate and Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Climate & Environment, the successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team who is passionate about creating environmental change and is looking for an opportunity to work on interesting and varied environmental projects.

Key responsibilities include:

The successful candidate will use a unique combination of exceptional people skills and analytical ability to contribute to a variety of program areas including, but not limited to:

  • Conducting environmental sampling programs including collection of surface water, groundwater and soil samples
  • Providing analytical and technical support on environmental projects including hazardous materials management, spill prevention and response; environmental protection; construction monitoring; sustainable design; noise management; air quality; energy conservation; waste reduction and recycling initiatives

The successful candidate will also act as an environmental steward and will support airport employees and in exploring environmental considerations during planning, design, construction and operation of airport facilities that advance YVR as a leader in sustainability.

Key qualifications include:

  • At least one year of experience conducting environmental sampling for surface water, groundwater and soil, supplemented by a diploma or degree in Environmental Studies or a related program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel with a working knowledge of databases
  • Proven ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Comfortable in both office and outdoor environments in all weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
