Position overview 

As the Manager, Health and Safety, you are a positive self-starter with a mindset rooted in safety culture and efficiency. You are a champion of safety collaboration with all levels in all organizations within YVR’s operating environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of health and safety professionals to build and enhance a culture of safety 
  • Direct planning, development, implementation and execution of YVR’s Safety Management System and its associated programs, including compliance to health and safety regulatory requirements and industry best practices as part of YVR’s approach to an Integrated Safety Strategy
  • Lead Health and Safety Audits to ensure industry leading practices are developed and implemented, and to ensure regulatory compliance through unwavering support of our Joint Occupational Safety and Health and Policy Occupational Safety and Health committees
  • Advise senior management on matters related to Occupational Health and Safety Strategy 
  • Develop relationships and embed an integrated safety approach across all operational parts of the business including industry partners with whom YVR has influence versus direct oversight 
  • Drive a “we are all accountable” approach to safety and a high reporting culture to ensure YVR has both current and accurate knowledge of the health and safety risk profile and mitigation approach across Sea Island 

Key qualifications include:

  • Minimum ten years’ relevant experience in related industry or field, supplemented by a post-secondary degree in health-related science, preferably occupational hygiene; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years’ leadership experience in a complex working environment (e.g., industrial, manufacturing or aviation) with a proven track record as an effective and positive people leader
  • Safety designations/certifications in Industrial Hygiene and/or Health and Safety, as well as TapRooT Root Cause Analysis will be preferred
  • Proven ability to drive change in adverse conditions, with demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, communication and change management
  • Proven critical thinking and ability to use judgement and make sound decisions to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
