Job Profile: Research Officer, Generalist

BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner (BCOHRC) exists to address the root causes of inequality, discrimination and injustice in B.C. by shifting laws, policies, practices and cultures. We do this work through education, research, advocacy, inquiry and monitoring.
Reporting to the Manager, Research, the Research Officer, Generalist, conducts quantitative and qualitative research using a variety of methodologies to support policy analysis and conduct ongoing monitoring, review and audit of programs and issues impacting human rights in the province. The Research Officer prepares written reports, briefing notes, presentations and other materials and provides technical and analytical support, including statistical and qualitative data analysis. The Research Officer identifies and reports on key human rights trends and indicators and contributes to recommendations regarding policy, practice, law and culture.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
As the BC Human Rights Commissioner is an independent Officer of the Legislature with the ability to hold inquiries into a broad range of human rights matters within B.C., successful candidates will need to avoid conflicts of interest. This could mean that successful candidates may not be permitted to sit on boards or engage in other activities that could result in an actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest.
- This list will be used to fill vacancies in this role as they become available. The terms may be permanent or temporary depending upon the vacancy.
- However, due to the extraordinary circumstances related to COVID-19, this position may be performed virtually and work-related travel will be suspended until the Commissioner determines, based on information from the Provincial Health Officer, that conditions have been met for employees to safely return to the office and resume work-related travel.
- Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada (i.e., Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or authorized in writing to work in Canada such as via a work permit). Employment is contingent upon continued eligibility to work in Canada.
- The successful applicant requires a criminal record check. Existence of a criminal record will not result in immediate disqualification.
