Last week was a big week for Spinal Cord Injury BC (SCI BC)’s Okanagan Peer Support Program and we wanted to give you an update on everything that happened! On Oct 20th we were the recipients of some great fundraising courtesy of the Kelowna Dirt Bike Club and the local motocross community, who chose to raise funds for SCI BC thanks to their connection to motocross champion and SCI BC Peer Member Brent Worral.
Their event and supporters raised $7,000 for SCI BC, and Brent was even featured in a Global TV news report, which you can watch above. The event was also covered in the Vernon Morning Star.
Thank you to everyone who attended this event and to the great motocross community for showing your support. Thanks also to Brent for being such an articulate and vocal supporter of SCI BC! We couldn’t ask for a better spokesman.
We also threw a great party last Thursday in Kelowna. ‘Bring Your Own Chair’ raised more than $6,000 for SCI BC’s Okanagan Peer Support Program, and brought out more than 100 people in support of the great work we all do. And yes, in case you were wondering, many people did bring their own chairs. If you haven’t already seen the photos, you can check them out on the Accessible Okanagan Facebook page.
Both of these events took a lot of time and energy to pull off, especially since they were only four days apart, so we wanted to give a big shout out and a virtual round of applause to our volunteers, Rachel Allenbrand, Berni and Wes Quist and Courtney Kusch, and to our local Peer Program Coordinators, Sonja Gaudet and James Hektner, for all of their hard work in helping us make these events happen.
It was a pleasure and a privilege for us to see the amazing community of Peers and supporters fostered over the last few years come together for our great cause.
We would also like to give a big show of gratitude to our Bring Your Own Chair event sponsors, who were critical in helping us make this event possible:
- Can Am Mobility
- Interior Savings
- Creative Mobility
- Tree Brewing
- Bayshore Home Health
- Thanks also to Gente Bella Salon & Spa in Chilliwack for their incredible last-minute donation: a trip for two to Las Vegas. Colleen Bryant and Randy LeBlanc were the lucky recipients of this fabulous door prize.
