ASK AN EXPERT Central Sensitization: What’s all the fuss?

The term “central sensitization” is increasingly used in public discourse, often in the context of pain. But what does it really mean and how do we know a person might be centrally sensitized? The aim of Dr. Kramer’s talk will be to describe the history of central sensitization and where, in the context of spinal cord injury, this term most accurately describes health and disease.

Dr. John Kramer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, & Therapeutics at the University of British Columbia and Principal Investigator at ICORD. His research is focused in the area of spinal cord injury and endeavors to understand nature recovery after damage in the spinal cord. His laboratory aims to develop novel techniques to aid in the diagnosis and prognosis of functional outcomes after spinal cord injury, including the likelihood of developing neuropathic pain.
