Grow older and wiser with The Road Ahead (formerly Aging with SCI) Education Series!
Getting older comes with new costs and responsibilities, and living with SCI or other disabilities can make money matters even trickier. In this education session, Heather Lamb will help you make cents of your financial obligations, share strategies to stay financially secure and point you toward resources that can help. You’ll pick up practical tips, have a chance to ask questions and gain confidence in planning for your future. Heather will start with a short presentation before answering questions from our members.
About Heather Lamb:
Heather has years of work experience in the disability field and also volunteers for a number of initiatives promoting accessibility. Heather first worked with us from 2010-2011 when our provincial InfoLine was new. She was a big part of developing our InfoLine services and building our SCI Information Database. Realizing that she wanted to further her education, Heather decided to go back to university to get her master’s degree in Social Work at UNBC in Prince George.
As SCI BC’s InfoLine Services Lead, Heather handles InfoLine calls from clients who may need assistance over the long term, or who are dealing with multiple issues related to their disability. She works with families and individuals who are new to spinal cord injury, as well as individuals who were injured many years ago.
Heather has a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and Canadian history from Carleton University and worked as a journalist before she decided that she wanted to be in a helping profession. The experience also gave Heather, who has been visually impaired since birth, some perspective on discrimination in the workplace. She is passionate about addressing ableism in society and pursuing social justice for people with disabilities.
