Equal Access Collective is proud to announce the BC Walk & Roll Accessibility Parade, taking place leading up to National AccessAbility Week 2026 in Surrey.

The BC Walk & Roll Accessibility Parade is a landmark community event celebrating accessibility, inclusion, and a barrier-free future. Organized by the Equal Access Collective, the parade will begin on the roadside outside Holland Park and travel to Surrey City Hall Plaza, bringing the community together in a visible celebration of accessibility.

This walk-and-roll-only parade welcomes participants using mobility aids, non-motorized cycles, or walking alongside family and friends. Cars or motorized floats are not permitted, ensuring the event remains focused on inclusive participation and accessibility.

Following the parade, a community festival at Surrey City Hall Plaza will feature speakers, performers, accessibility organizations, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. The festival will provide opportunities for community members, advocates, organizations, and businesses to connect while showcasing accessibility innovations and resources.

More than one in four Canadians live with a disability, including over 900,000 British Columbians. The BC Walk & Roll Accessibility Parade aims to raise awareness about accessibility barriers while encouraging individuals, organizations, and communities to rethink how their spaces, services, and practices can become more accessible. By highlighting the benefits of accessibility for everyone, the event invites people to consider how small changes can help remove barriers and create more inclusive communities.

The event is expected to bring together individuals, families, community organizations, and advocates from across the Lower Mainland and beyond.

Nanaimo Pottery Painting Night 2025 Header
April 23, 2026

Get creative and unwind at our Nanaimo Pottery Painting Night! Join us for a relaxed, social evening where you can paint your own precast piece of pottery. No artistic experience needed, just come ready to have fun and express yourself!

You’ll choose a precast pottery piece and paint it using either acrylic paint, which can be taken home the same night, or ceramic glaze, which will be kiln‑fired and available for pickup at a later date. Any pottery intended for food use (such as mugs) must be glazed and fired in the kiln.

Enjoy a night of creativity and connection, and leave with a piece that’s uniquely yours!

We will meet in Creative Escape Art inside the Nanaimo North Town Centre Mall. Please use the mall entrance near the playground loop, as the other mall doors will be closed.

Please RSVP to Bert at babbott@sci-bc.ca.

Nitobe Tour 2025 Header
April 30, 2026
Find your inner zen and join us for a serene visit to the Nitobe Memorial Garden in Vancouver.
Located on the UBC Endowment Lands, the Nitobe Memorial Garden is considered to be one of the best traditional Japanese gardens in North America and among the top five outside Japan. Nestled in two acres of native BC forest, this Shinto-style stroll garden includes a rare, authentic Zen garden and ceremonial Tea House.
Following the garden tour, yoga teacher and SCI BC Peer Health Coach, Mary-Jo Fetterly, will guide the group through a mindfulness exercise in this beautiful, tranquil space. Many people find mindfulness to be a useful way to shift their relationship with thoughts, reduce stress, and reconnect with their bodies.
Please RSVP to Peter at pchisholm@sci-bc.ca.
