Vivian Garcia

Vivian Garcia joined Spinal Cord Injury BC in 1988 when it was known as the BC Paraplegic Association. At that time, she mostly connected with peers about pregnancy and babies as she had a young son who was eight months old when a tree fell on both of them and Vivian sustained an SCI. In 1995, Vivian’s second son was only the 15th child born to a paraplegic in North America.

Vivian is a fiercely independent single parent in a world evolving towards accessibility. For many years, she was an advocate with the City of New Westminster and TransLink. In 2007, Vivian was a Peer Program Coordinator in the Vancouver SCI BC office and her role has shifted and changed over time along with her interests.

Vivian has hosted the SCI BC Surrey coffee group since 2015. She is an advocate who loves to research. Vivian has lived experience with SCI and life in general. She enjoys spending time with her dog, volunteering in her community, listening to audiobooks, and spending time with her friends and family.
