Caleb Brousseau was born and raised in Terrace, BC. He is one of 12 siblings who grew up living an adventurous and active lifestyle and working for the family roofing company. He was an avid snowboarder and sustained an L1 spinal cord injury while snowboarding at the age of 18 and went through GF Strong. Staying passionate about sport and outdoor recreation, he went on to learn how to whitewater kayak, sit-ski, camp, bike, and scuba dive.
A passion for sit skiing led him to compete at an international level on the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team and represent Canada at the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games where he won bronze in Super-G. Becoming a certified whitewater kayaking instructor, he spent several years teaching kayaking with the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. He also spent time working as a machinist, in a cabinetry shop, and as a heavy equipment operator in remote locations.
Caleb has fond memories of his time and the peers he met in GF Strong in 2007. He returned to GF Strong for 5 months in the spring of 2022 after sustaining a C5 complete spinal cord injury while adaptive mountain biking. Caleb and his wife are continuing to adapt and explore the world of adventure traveling, biking, scuba diving, and wheelchair rugby. Caleb brings a unique perspective on spinal cord injury through his lived experience as a paraplegic for 15 years, and now as a quadriplegic. With a background in construction and the sports industry spanning over 20 years, he is excited to continue connecting with peers and make a difference as a Peer Support Coordinator at Spinal Injury BC.
