The Disability Foundation, founded by Sam Sullivan, provides opportunities for people with disabilities. It promotes the capabilities and talents of people with physical challenges, once barriers in the physical landscape have been overcome. The foundation consists of six affiliated societies, all providing different opportunities for disabled people in BC.
The six societies are:
Adaptive Sailing Association of BC
BC Mobility Opportunities Society
Disabled Independent Gardeners Association
Vancouver Adapted Music Society
Check out the new Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), which empowers youth with disabilities to identify, discuss, and find solutions to attitudinal barriers to employment. This project is run by a diverse group of young paid interns including those with disabilities. They work together to perform research and identify barriers, brainstorm solutions, and create a multimedia toolkit that supports both employers and post-secondary students with disabilities in the job seeking process. They have a toolkit of useful resources, located here.
