SCI BC’s Board of Directors oversees the strategic, financial and operational sustainability of the organization. Our volunteer board members are all knowledgeable business professionals and three of them * are living with a spinal cord injury.

Anthony Ariganello

Tony joined the SCI BC Board in 2011 and is a member of both the Audit and Governance Committees. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC & Yukon.  Prior to joining CPHR BC & Yukon in 2014, Tony was President and CEO of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada for 11 years.  A graduate of McGill University, Tony has chaired the board of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada, been a member of the board of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, and the Non-Prescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada. He is a member of CPA BC and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and holds the ICD.D director designation. Tony is also the Chair of the BC Audit Council for Local Government.

Harry Hole

Harry joined the SCI BC Board of Directors in 2019. He was raised in Edmonton and graduated with Business and Engineering Degrees from the University of Alberta. He then joined Lockerbie & Hole Contracting Ltd and earned professional engineering status in 1986, buying into the firm 6 years later and moving to Vancouver in 1993 as the District Manager. He spent 5 years in Toronto, successfully expanding the business in central and eastern Canada, before returning to Vancouver in 2005 to assist with taking the company public. Harry resigned in 2007 to purchase and operate Petrokleen, a fuel polishing company, the revenues for which he successfully expanded fivefold in the following 10 years. Harry resides in West Vancouver with his family and has served on the Advisory Board for Headwater Equity Partners (2011), as a Board member for ZenGot Services Inc. (2018), and on the board as well of the Mulgrave Independent School (2011-2017). He is very active in sports as a participant and previously as a coach for youth sports in his community as well.

Susan Bains *

Susan Bains is a dedicated advocate for accessibility and inclusion with over 20 years of experience in progressive HR, including more than a decade in management and senior leadership roles. She now focuses her efforts on improving accessibility within communities and the built environment. A passionate member of SCI BC, South Fraser Active Living (SFAL), and the Equal Access Collective, Susan lives by the principle “Nothing about us without us.” As a contributor to the Surrey Accessibility Leadership Team (SALT), she plays a key role in advancing accessibility initiatives in what is expected to be the largest city in BC. Susan’s advocacy work recently led to significant improvements in the accessibility of the iconic White Rock pier. Joining the SCI BC Board of Directors, Susan is continuing her commitment to fostering a more inclusive and accessible society.

Jennifer Leyen

Jennifer Leyen is a disability management consultant and advocate, working to support individuals and organizations working with clients, employees or members dealing with disability, recovery and return to work. She is also a speaker and consultant with a focus on workers’ compensation law and policy and mental health injuries. With a BA from the University of British Columbia, a certificate in disability management from the National Institute of Disability Management and a master’s degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary, Jennifer has worked as a rehabilitation consultant for clients with occupational and non-occupational injuries, followed by 25 years as a manager and director with WorkSafeBC. While at WorkSafeBC, Jennifer was instrumental in developing a new vision and strategy for supporting clients with catastrophic injuries and led clinical and case management teams working in trauma, occupational disease, mental health, brain injuries and work-related fatalities.

Scott McCloy (Vice Chair & Treasurer)

Scott joined the SCI BC Board in 2008. He recently retired from his position as Director of Government, Community and Media Relations for WorkSafeBC, with over 30 years’ experience in this field in both the public and private sectors. Scott remains very active in the community following his retirement and currently holds two executive positions on the SCI BC board, serving as both Vice-Chair and Treasurer.  He chairs the Finance Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee. Additionally, Scott is a member of the Board of the Lions Paraplegic Lodge Society.

Edward Milligan * (Chairperson)

Ed joined the SCI BC Board in 2000 and has served as Chairperson since 2010. A professional engineer, he is Owner and President of West Shore Constructors. Prior to accepting the role of Chair, Ed’s board contributions included advocacy work as well as participating on the Lions Paraplegic Lodge Board. Ed is also a director of the BC Paraplegic Foundation, as well as Co-Chair of Spinal Cord Injury Canada’s Board of Directors.
