How Do I Get There? Modo May Be the Answer

Our recent collaboration with Modo is making events, like our annual Scotiabank Charity Challenge, more accessible. Here’s how.

We know getting there is half the battle. From inaccessible transportation options and gas expenses to vehicle costs and lack of versatility, there are endless reasons why making it out to an SCI BC event can be challenging. We’re hoping to change that with Modo’s accessible van!

In collaboration with the BC-based car co-op, an accessible van will be available at this year’s Scotiabank Charity Challenge to transport participants to and from the starting line on June 23! The van, available for Modo members year-round near Vancouver’s Broadway-City Hall SkyTrain station, can fit four passengers and a wheelchair user. It has a folding ramp and rear entrance and includes tie-down straps for wheelchairs of all types.

Moreover, it also includes a commitment to connecting people with places in a way that’s affordable, convenient and inclusive. Case in point, when Jenna Wright (SCI BC’s Provincial Peer Program Lead) used Modo’s van for a recent event. “We noticed pretty quickly that it was a difficult area for our members to access … MODO changed that for us,” she explains. “By reserving a vehicle for the day, we were able to bring members who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to attend due to lack of transportation. It is a very simple reservation process and knowing we were in a safe vehicle without the added cost of gas and insurance removed a lot of the stress.”
