Updated on August 28, 2024

Although periods of sadness are normal after a spinal cord injury, depression as defined in this document is not, especially when the symptoms go on for more than a week or two. Depression is not your fault. It is not caused by personal weakness, laziness, or lack of will power. It can be treated. Use the self-test in this brochure to give you an idea of whether you have depression and then talk to a professional.
