Legal Resources and Information in BC

Dial-A-Law is a library of free legal information in BC, prepared by lawyers. It has practical information on over 130 legal topics in BC. You can learn about legal rights and responsibilities, and the legal system. Dial-A-Law transcripts are offered in English, Chinese and Punjabi. Scripts are also available online in digital audio format.

Lawyer Referral Service

This service is designed to assist the general public in finding the appropriate lawyer.   The lawyer will provide a free consultation of 15 minutes. This interview is to find out whether or not the caller has a legal problem that the lawyer can help with. If both parties agree to proceed with services, then they may do so at the lawyer’s regular fee.

Everyone Legal Clinic (lower cost services)

You can also receive an online referral to a supervised articling clinician if you:

  1. Have a family, tenancy/strataemployment, wills/estates, civil, corporate, consumer or criminal law issue
  2. Have the ability to pay for the clinician’s fixed-fee representation services after an initial meeting
  3. Are willing to work with the clinician by telephone or video conference
  4. Can communicate in English

If you meet all of the above criteria, you can access the clinic in one of two ways:

These articling clinicians work under the supervision of practising lawyers, and provide legal services on a lower-cost, fixed-fee basis.
