The BC government provides financial assistance to people who meet certain criteria. Income Assistance is for people who are in need and have no other resources. This program can be accessed while transitioning to employment or to Persons with Disabilities status (PWD-see below). Find out more about Income Assistance.
PWD is for people with significant disabilities that are expected to last for more than two years. You must have restrictions in your ability to perform activities of daily living and require assistance with daily living (such as using a mobility device or the help of another person). There is also financial criteria to be eligible for PWD. Those who are successful with their application will receive a monthly income as per the rate tables on the link, and may be eligible for help with necessary medical equipment and supplies, and a few other benefits.
There is an online application for the basic criteria of both programs; see the website for information. Those applying to PWD must request the PWD application, which has sections for you to fill out, one for your doctor, and one from another medical professional (doctor, OT, social worker, etc.).
The link on the right has further information about benefits you may be eligible for, the PWD rates, and information about eligibility, or call 1 866 866-0800 to reach the Ministry.
