The Intrathecal Baclofen Clinic at GF Strong helps people with severe spasticity manage their symptoms with an implanted, programmable drug pump system that delivers anti-spastic medications directly to the cerebral spinal fluid.
The clinic team includes nurses, a physiatrist (rehabilitation doctor) and consultation with a surgeon.
- If you are referred to the intrathecal baclofen clinic, you will be assessed by a physiatrist to determine whether you are a candidate for the pump. If so, a test dose via lumbar puncture will be arranged for you.
- After you have seen the results of the intrathecal baclofen test dose and decide to go ahead with pump implantation, surgery will be arranged for you.
- Once your pump is implanted, you will regularly see the Intrathecal Baclofen Clinic team for maintenance, dose changes, medication refills and overall spasticity management.
See the website for full eligibility criteria and the outpatient program referral, which your doctor needs to fill out.
