SCI Nav connects clinicians, patients, and families with expert support for spinal cord injury (SCI) care across B.C. Access free advice, training, and consultation services from specialists to help navigate treatment, rehabilitation, and life with SCI.
SCI Nav is a pilot service that supports both clinicians and people living with spinal cord injury (SCI) across British Columbia. The program strengthens clinical capacity and helps ensure patients receive the best possible care, including during the transition from hospital to community after rehabilitation.
SCI Nav provides free access to expert advice, education, and consultation services. Clinicians and patients can connect with SCI Nav to access SCI resources and information and ask SCI-related questions. SCI Nav can help connect patients with the appropriate services and provide support in navigating the healthcare system. The program is led by a coordinator and clinical consulting team at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, with generous funding from the Rick Hansen Foundation, and support from key partners including Spinal Cord Injury BC, and the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
Eligibility for patients:
- Must have a diagnosed spinal cord injury (by a physician)
- Injury must be chronic (not newly diagnosed within past three months)
- Injury must have significant functional impact (bowel/bladder involvement and/or primary use of a wheelchair)
You can download our SCI Nav wallet card to carry with you to encourage clinicians to access the service when you are accessing care.
