Brandy joined the BC Paraplegic Association, now known as Spinal Cord Injury BC (SCI BC), as the Peer Program Coordinator for Northern BC in 2006 and recently transitioned into a new role of Manager, Provincial Peer Coordinator Program. Brandy also serves as the BTG Regional Coordinator for BC Wheelchair Sports Association, one of SCI BC’s partner organizations with the BC Spinal Cord Injury Network.
She was paralyzed from a motor vehicle accident in 1998 and has over 25 years of lived experience with a T11 – 12 SCI. Brandy credits the peers she met after her injury with helping her learn about spinal cord injury and how to live well after injury. Brandy uses her knowledge and experience of SCI when reaching out to peers throughout communities in the north.
“I find it amazing how resourceful, innovative and creative people are,” she says. “It’s wonderful to share this collective insight and knowledge gathered over the years through our network.”
During her time as Peer Program Coordinator, Brandy organized many adventurous activities for peers, including white water rafting, paddle boarding, skydiving, camping, and kayaking. She also strengthened our peer network across Northern BC and coordinated our peer volunteers in Quesnel and Fort St. John.
Brandy and her husband, Rob run a variety of adapted sport programs with Northern Adapted Sports Association including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and para ice hockey. When she’s not at work, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her two adult children and three Labrador retrievers.
