From elementary school to her professional career, Maya has always been involved in philanthropy. It has been a continuous theme throughout her academic and personal life, and she is thrilled to begin in the non-profit sector as the Philanthropy Coordinator at SCI BC. With a family connection to the SCI community, Maya is grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to the organization and be a part of the team.
Maya graduated with Latin honors from New York University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, and a minor in Child Adolescent Mental Health Studies. Prior to her career in philanthropy, Maya was a United Nations Advocacy intern at the International Crisis Group and an editorial intern at the Lawfare Institute in Washington, DC. She has worked in law, policy, and global affairs with the goal of making a difference. Throughout her time at New York University, Maya was involved in several philanthropic efforts. She served on the board of the New York Dance Marathon and helped raise over $400,000 towards financial support for families affected by pediatric cancer. Additionally, she fundraised for the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation as a student fundraiser for over three years and raised over $10,000.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Maya is excited to be around a group of inspiring and change-making individuals. She hopes to connect with her roots after being abroad and wants to use her experience and skills to benefit the organization and its cause. Since Maya’s father was injured in 2015 and became a quadriplegic, she has strived to find ways to connect individuals and their loved ones in the SCI community. She looks forward to helping SCI BC grow and raise money as part of the philanthropy team. Outside of the office, she can be found hiking, reading and writing, binging Netflix reality TV, and spending time with her two sisters.
