For people living with disabilities, additional emergency planning could be required to ensure safety and stable health. Taking the time to understand these guides and resources now could mean a better outcome for you or those you know in the event of an emergency.

Public Safety Canada has published an Emergency Preparedness Guide for People with Disabilities. The guide can be helpful to create your own emergency plan, formulate a personal support network, and know how to handle service animals. The guide also has special tips for various special needs such as mobility, vision, and hearing impairments.

Similarly, the BC government has published PreparedBC: Resources for People with Disabilities. This guide helps identify the top 10 risks in BC (from severe weather to disease outbreaks) and what you can do if you find yourself in one of them.
