You may have heard that Team SCI BC reached (and exceeded!) our fundraising goal of $75,000 for this year’s Charity Challenge. What you might not know is that 35% of the funds were raised by corporate teams representing businesses in our community!
With the Charity Challenge being SCI BC’s biggest fundraiser of the year, we are grateful for these incredible businesses and their dedication to helping people with SCI and related disabilities adjust, adapt and thrive. Thank you!

Spare and Chairstuff
Spare and Chairstuff combined forces to raise a whopping $10,687 for SCI BC! The amazing team showed up in blue to wheel, walk and run the 5-km race in Vancouver (see photos below).
Spare supports transit agencies by providing innovative technology for ADA paratransit and microtransit services, improving access and empowering over 10 million rides globally.
Chairstuff, a long-time supporter of SCI BC, is a medical supply company that services BC and beyond. If you’re looking for catheters, bowel products, drainage bags, and more, Chairstuff has got you covered!
ICBC
Members of Team ICBC for SCI BC showed up for the 5-km and half-marathon races in Vancouver. Together, they raised an impressive $6,746!
The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) makes sure the auto insurance system works for all road users. They make decisions with every British Columbian in mind and support drivers both on and off the road. ICBC is committed to a safer BC and an insurance system everyone can be proud of — now and in the future.
Daily Hive
The Daily Hive Dashers for SCI BC not only dashed their way their way to the finish line, they also raised $5,828!
According to Daily Hive, “Community is at the heart of who we are and the team is super proud and excited to participate in this race and support a local charity!”
Daily Hive is a Canadian-born online news source, established in 2008, that creates compelling, hyperlocal content. Macdonald’s Home Health Care
The Macdonald’s Home Health Care (MHHC) Speed raised a remarkable $1,858! The team came together in June to conquer a 5-km trail locally and raise funds.
According to MHHC, “The Charity Challenge is a great event to support an even greater cause. It is important for us to make any effort we can to fundraise and advocate for non-profit organizations, like SCI BC, that supports people living with spinal cord and related injuries. SCI BC’s programs help people throughout British Columbia thrive and grow on a daily basis.”
MHHC is specialized in sales, rentals and service of home medical equipment for nearly 20 years throughout the lower mainland. They pride themselves on their extensive experience and knowledge of all things seating and mobility, and are known to go “above and beyond” for their clients. MHHC has a long history of supporting and collaborating with SCI BC and its membership.
Acera Insurance
The superstar two-person from Acera Insurance (aka Acera’s Red Hot Chili Steppers) raised a superb $1,343! The duo ran their own race in Kelowna in June.
Mike from Acera Insurance explains, “SCI BC is a great organization, doing such great work for people with spinal cord injuries. The more help we can offer, the greater ability SCI BC has to positively impact those who live with spinal cord injuries.”
Acera Insurance is the largest, employee-controlled brokerage in Canada. As a full-service brokerage, their employees have specialized expertise across a broad spectrum of sectors, providing clients with impartial advice and customized personal insurance, commercial insurance and group benefits solutions.
Neuromotion
Neuromotion (aka Team Neurons in Motion for SCI BC) raced for a cause and raised $298 to support SCI BC’s Peer Program and Information Services.
Ondrej from Neuromotion says, “SCI BC provides vital support and resources to individuals living with SCI. By joining or donating, you’re helping SCI BC continue their important work and make a positive impact in the SCI community.”
Neuromotion is a rehabilitation clinic specializing in neurological conditions including SCI. They offer personalized physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to help individuals improve their mobility, function and quality of life.
Thank you to these amazing businesses for going above and beyond to support people with SCI and related disabilities. Their dedication and hard work means SCI BC can continue to provide answers, information and unique community experiences that change lives.
