A former newcomer from beautiful Prague, the Czech Republic, Pavlina arrived in Canada in 1999 on an exchange scholarship to SFU. She came to SCI BC after years of teaching workplace English at Douglas College to those who have made Canada their new home. Besides teaching, her calling is information research and delivery—a passion she developed years ago when working in Hansard at the BC Legislative Assembly.
With a breadth of private involvement in mental health and wheelchair accessibility advocacy, based on her personal and family experience, Pavlina is glad she can contribute her skills to SCI BC. As life is not always linear, Pavlina persevered across decades and completed a BA in political science from SFU and MEd in TESL from UBC just recently.
In her spare time, she enjoys returning to the Island and going on local trips with her husband, hiking in the West Coast nature, playing the recorder, and a renewed interest in learning languages.
