The Canada Disability Benefit is a new federal benefit for low-income Canadians with disabilities. The benefit was established to reduce poverty and improve the financial security of eligible individuals and will offer up to $200 per month. Payments are non taxable and do not need to be reported as income on your tax return but you must file your taxes each year to remain eligible. You will not receive a tax slip for these benefits.
The first month of eligibility for the benefit was in June 2025 with the first payments made in July 2025. You must be approved for the Disability Tax Credit in order to apply for this benefit. Find out more about the Disability Tax Credit here and the Canada Disability Benefit here.

Note that in September 2026, all recipients of the Canada Disability Benefit will receive a one-time payment of $150 to offset any costs associated with obtaining the DTC. This will be retroactive to July 2025 and will include anyone who has received a benefit since then. There is no need to apply for this extra payment.
